It’s said to be an early maturing softneck variety, with some growers harvesting 4 to 6 weeks earlier than the other varieties. However, in our climate (at latitude 45 degrees North), we harvest about mid July, along with our other softneck varieties. Chinese R&W has fat cloves that can be striped or solid and has a nice mellow flavor, with good storage abilities (around 4 to 5 months).

Averages 5-10 decent cloves for planting per bulb, although you will inevitably find more cloves than that as you prepare the bulb for planting. Use your discretion when planting.
